What is a timing belt?
A timing belt also known as a cambelt is a part of the internal combustion engine that controls the timing of the engine's valves.
Common Failures of a Timing Belt
Most common timing belt failures are stripped teeth or a delamination and unravelling of the fibre cores. Other factors that may require a timing belt kit would include a failure of the tensioner, and/or various gear and idler bearings, causing the belt to derail.
Do you need a new timing belt kit?
If you've done over 60,000 miles then it may be time to change your timing belt kit, you can easily check by looking in your car manufacturers handbook and finding the recommended replacement distances for timing belt kits this can be anywhere between 60,000 to 90,000 miles.
Why fit an entire kit and not just the belt?
Like any hard worked car part, if you just change the moving component then there is bound to be another trip to the garage
from a seized bearing or tensioner in a few thousand miles time. If you have the time and a little bit more money it is well worth changing all components (remember not to over look the water pump!)
for instance if the tensioner sticks then if you have replaced just the belt it won't last long (literally minutes). So whilst the mechanic is under the bonnet, get him to change the entire kit
and not just the belt as it will save money in the long run.
Our timing belt kits.
The timing belt kits we supply are manufactured to OE specification that means they are made to the same specifications
and conditions that were originally fitted to your car. We therefore only supply a high quality part and often the part you are taking off is identical to the timing belt kit you are
replacing.
